LAKES DiSTRICT Infection control solution.
Lakes District Health Board (DHB) infection control unit is charged with critical thinking in relation to infection prevention and control throughout the DHB, and address any clinical issues as they relate to infection prevention and control.
THE CHALLENGE.
The possibility of patients contracting/spreading hospital and community acquired infections exists across most facets of the Lakes DHB. Additionally, evidence supports that if these infections were not being identified quickly enough potentially resulting in longer recovery times and bed days and potentially result in significant patient harm as well as acute and prolonged loss of quality of life (QoL).
The National Institute for Health Innovation (NIHI) recommended the ICNet software had the potential to provide a more comprehensive management system to identify and manage all types of healthcare-associated infections early, consistently and to provide feedback on quality improvement processes. Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) was willing to support its implementation at DHBs if they completed and approved their business case.

HOW WE HELPED.
Resolution8 wrote the business case with Lakes DHB and ran the project to implement the ICNet solution.
Completion of the business case required quickly adapting the Lakes DHB business case format, understanding the issues, potential solutions, their benefits, and costs associated with those solutions – including assessing the savings made by replacing manual process and to the health sector through prevention.
Once the business case was approved, we set out the plan for implementation and connection, helping to; set the contract with the vendor, addressing the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) local and cloud hosting risk assessments, getting these signed and submitted to the DIA, getting data-feeds and agreements for those feeds in place from other clinical systems (internal and external), introducing process changes within the DHB and coordination across multiple stakeholders.
As with all of our projects, the schedule, risks, issues, and decisions were tracked in our project portal where our clients and stakeholders can view and contribute to the project process.
The ICNet solution went live in November 2019.
